Let’s move with Seniors this month!
June 5, 2026
June is Seniors Month – a time to recognize and honour the vital role that older adults play in our families, communities, and society.
Seniors are Ontario’s fastest growing demographic. The number of seniors aged 65 and over is projected to increase significantly, from 2.8 million or 18.4 per cent of population in 2022, to 4.4 million, or 20.3 per cent by 2046.
The 2026 theme, Ontario Seniors — Let’s Get Moving, highlights programs and initiatives that promote wellness, social engagement and education for seniors and older adults.
But for many older adults, “getting moving” is becoming harder, according to the Ontario Community Support Association (OCSA), which represents more than 200 not-for-profit provincial organizations including FST.
This year during Seniors Month OCSA is highlighting the importance of sustainable, accessible transportation supports.
“Across Ontario, community support providers are experiencing growing pressures delivering transportation services that seniors rely on for medical appointments to grocery shopping,” reports OCSA. “Community transportation is a lifeline, especially in rural, northern and underserved communities.”
FST provides a range of services and supports to seniors. Our Seniors and Caregivers Support Services teams provide trauma-informed counselling supports and educational workshops on elder abuse.
