March 6, 2020

Ahmed Hussen, Canada’s Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, spoke to Campaign 2000’s National Strategy Conference at Family Service Toronto on March 6.

The Minister fielded questions on a range of issues including the potential for basic income pilots across the country, the inaccessibility of the Canada Child Benefit for refugee families and the high rate of poverty in indigenous  communities.

Attendees told the Minister his priorities must include the need for quality, affordable and accessible childcare as well as the reduction of high poverty rates among racialized and indigenous children.

Campaign 2000, co-ordinated by Family Service Toronto, is a non-partisan coalition of 120 groups and individuals committed to ending child poverty.
